Joint Pain Q&A
What is joint pain?
Joint pain is an uncomfortable feeling in your joints, where two bones connect. Your joints are made up of tendons, ligaments, muscles, bones, and cartilage. Pain in your joints could present as:
- Sharp discomfort
- Sudden pain
- Dull aching
- Stiffness
- Tenderness
- Swelling
- Warmth
- Redness
- Bruising
- Decreased range of motion
- Limited mobility
You may also notice crunching or popping sounds at the time of a joint injury. See ASPIRE HEALTH pain specialists at the first sign of a problem.
What causes joint pain?
A variety of factors can cause joint pain. Your risk of developing joint discomfort increases with older age, obesity, lack of exercise, falling, playing sports, or being in a car accident. Other causes include arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, injections, tendon tears, fractures, and other common joint injuries.
How does my doctor diagnose joint pain?
To figure out what’s causing joint pain, Dr. Buttar discusses your symptoms and medical history with you. He examines your joints to assess their structure, function, and range of motion. He could also order blood tests, MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds, X-rays, or other imaging procedures to find the root cause of your discomfort.
What are common joint pain treatments?
Common treatments available at ASPIRE HEALTH for joint pain include:
Lifestyle changes
Making simple lifestyle changes helps your joints heal and alleviates discomfort. Try resting your joints, using ice or heat packs, or wearing a brace while your injury heals. If you’re overweight, consider weight loss or getting regular exercise after your joints recover to reduce the risk of reinjury.
Dr. Buttar offers joint injections including hyaluronic acid injections to lubricate your joints and steroid injections to diminish swelling and pain.
